Are you a fan of cozy video games? If so, welcome!! You’re in good company! Have you thought or maybe heard about cozy video games?
You’re in for a treat! In this blog post, I’ll be diving into the latest updates and expansions for four popular simulation games: Palia, The Sims 4, Dreamlight Valley, and Coral Island.
Cozy Video Games News and Updates – Dec 2023
Whether you’re a seasoned player or new to the genre, there’s something for everyone to be excited about. So let’s jump right in!
Palia: Coming to the Switch
First up, I’m thrilled about Palia, a highly anticipated game that is about to make its debut on the Nintendo Switch on December 14th. The Switch version of Palia will allow me to seamlessly link my accounts from the PC version, giving me the flexibility to continue my gameplay on both platforms.
This is a fantastic feature for someone like me who enjoys playing on the go or switching between devices. Additionally, Palia is hosting a winter celebration throughout December, complete with beautiful winter decorations and snowball fights. It’s the perfect way to get into the festive spirit!
The Sims 4: A New Expansion Pack
Next on my list is The Sims 4, a beloved franchise that recently released a new expansion pack called “For Rent.” While this expansion pack has received mixed reviews, I think it’s important to consider that expectations can vary among long-time fans of the series. As a newcomer to simming, I personally find the Sims 4 expansion packs enjoyable.
However, some players feel that the packs can be overpriced for the content they offer. Nevertheless, “For Rent” introduces the exciting concept of being a landlord and managing multiple apartments. This eliminates the need to control every Sim in a building, making gameplay more streamlined and enjoyable.
One downside is that transitioning between houses still requires a loading screen, but there is an option to switch houses without the loading screen. Overall, “For Rent” offers new and interesting gameplay mechanics for Sims 4 players to explore.
Dreamlight Valley: A Rift in Time
Dreamlight Valley, a charming and whimsical game, has just released its first expansion pack, “A Rift in Time.” This expansion introduces new characters like Gaston, Eve from Diagon Alley, and Rapunzel, along with a whole new world to explore.
The expansion promises a futuristic setting and unique mechanics, making it an exciting addition to the game. I have the opportunity to embark on a new story on Eternity Isle, discover new lands, and interact with four new villagers.
Additionally, the expansion introduces the Royal Hourglass, a tool that allows me to find relics and build ancient machines. While the expansion pack may come with a price tag, the new content and gameplay mechanics make it a worthwhile investment for dedicated Dreamlight Valley players.
Coral Island: Full Release and New Experiences
Last but not least, I’m excited about Coral Island, a delightful game that has recently transitioned from early access to its full release. While there may not be any major additions for new players, those who have been with the game since its early stages will notice several improvements and additions.
I‘ve been enjoying the ability to build relationships with NPCs, get married, and even have babies. This feature adds depth and immersion to the gameplay, reminiscent of other popular farm life sims like Stardew Valley.
However, it’s worth noting that the game is still being fine-tuned, with some players experiencing occasional crashes. Despite this, the progress made by the developers and the growing community of players is a testament to the game’s potential.
Conclusion
As a cozy video game enthusiast, I feel fortunate to have such a diverse range of updates and expansions to look forward to. In fact, I often use cozy video games as a part of my self-care routine.
Whether I’m exploring the enchanting world of Palia, creating my dream life in The Sims 4, embarking on new adventures in Dreamlight Valley, or building my own paradise in Coral Island, there’s something for me to enjoy.
These games continue to evolve and provide me with endless hours of entertainment and immersion.
So, what are you waiting for? Dive into these exciting updates and let your imagination run wild!

Nicely written Blog. Ive been mostly sticking to console games but have been getting bored lately. Been looking to branch out my gaming adventure haha. I used to play Sims but not anymore. Love Witcher and Elder Scrolls and games like that. Out of the other three games you mentioned what one do you enjoy the most? If i play games like the mentioned above and some sports games and also love Zelda almost every one of them, is their a game that i should try next?
Hi Steve, thanks for checking out my blog! My brother and Dad mostly play on console as well, while I’m mostly PC and Switch. But I’ve been playing a lot more with a controller vs using the keyboard and it’s so much more enjoyable. I love playing Dreamlight Valley on my Switch after a long day of work, but I also enjoy the quests in Coral Island. Oh, have you heard of Grounded?! It’s like a “Honey I Shrunk the Kids” mixed with Minecraft, mixed with Zelda, lol. I play it in multiplayer with my Dad and brother, maybe you’ll like it.
Hey thank you for this, much appreciated!
I have been wanting to buy a nintendo switch, the games are amazing which I am familiar with since I have a nintendo 3ds! This palia game sounds interesting which I guess is encouraging me to purchase a Nintendo switch sooner rather than later!
As for a new sims 4 expansion, that is exciting news since I am a fan of the sims games and have a few packs installed!
Thanks for the update and have a great day!
Thanks for checking my update! I’m really enjoying my Switch this season, especially the ability to sit in my cozy recliner and play or connect to a bigger screen.
Great article! I use cozy video games to escape from my busy lifestyle with two small kids. The three great games that you write about are great options for relaxation, and The Sims 4 “For rent” expansion gives me the ability to be a landlord, which I like very much. I also love Coral Island for its depth. I’ve never tried Dreamlight Valley, so that is a game that I will give a try.
Same here Marko. They definitely help me destress after a day or week of working. The landlord aspect of “For Rent” is going to make for some fun and crazy gameplay!
